Do you want to help create jobs and fight poverty in America? The ICA Group is looking for a Controller to join our growing team working to expand economic democracy through the creation and growth of worker-owned companies and other social enterprises. This is preferably a full-time position based in our Northampton, Massachusetts office with growth potential. Hours and scope of responsibilities are negotiable, with a minimum of 20 hours / week doing the required responsibilities listed below.


(REQUIRED) The primary responsibility is to manage the financial activities of the organization using QuickBooks software. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Account payables;
  • Invoicing and account receivables;
  • Bank account reconciliation
  • Budget development and tracking;
  • Payroll;
  • Audit preparation;
  • 990 and other state filings preparation;
  • Preparation of monthly financial statements;
  • Perform account analysis and other accounting duties as needed.

(PREFERRED) The individual will also interact with ICA clients (e.g. tracking and invoice follow-up.)

  • Filing reports and maintaining contracts with foundations, and state and federal agencies;
  • Maintaining contracts with fee for service clients;
  • Entering activity data into government and foundation CRM systems; and
  • Maintaining and coordinating with the Executive Director ICA’s internal CRM system.

(PREFERRED) Additional office / project management responsibilities include:

  • Track and provide summary reports of project management;
  • Track project hours and prepare time reports and billing;
  • Coordinate maintenance of office equipment (printers, copiers, postage.);
  • Design, implement, and manage an efficient supply ordering system; and
  • Other duties as necessary

Candidate Competencies

The ideal candidate will be an expert at QuickBooks, have experience in both for-profit and not-for-profit accounting settings, management of fiscal infrastructure of grants, and work well in a team atmosphere.

The successful applicant will have a bachelor’s degree in related field and three years of relevant work experience. Must have knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, bookkeeping and accounting cycle procedures, CPA designation preferred. Strong analytical, organizational, communication and computer skills required. Software skills to include QuickBooks, Excel, Word, and Salesforce. Must have skills to make and verify computations with accuracy, to compile statistical data and prepare routine reports and to work under time constraints. Duties require verbal communication abilities, visual acuity to written and computer screen data, attention to detail and manual coordination and dexterity in the operation of office equipment.
