ICA manages the Alternative Staffing Alliance, a national network of social enterprises that combine a staffing business model with supportive services to help disadvantaged job seekers enter and succeed in the workforce. Together, this sector annually employs over 43,000 individuals including returning citizens, people with disabilities, people experiencing homelessness, young adults, and other overlooked talent.
Staffing is a key gateway to employment in today’s economy. Alternative staffing practitioners strive to improve the quality and dignity of temporary work by paying good wages, promoting high safety standards, and equipping candidates for long-term success through coaching and skills training, placement in temp-to-hire opportunities, and access to social supports.
The Alliance serves as a national clearinghouse and resource for practitioners to facilitate networking and promote peer learning, develop practitioner tools and resources, document best practices, benchmark performance outcomes and collaborate with strategic partners to advance mutual goals.
ICA is uniquely qualified to help organizations exploring this model. We have provided feasibility analysis and business planning services to multiple organizations and helped launch several ASOs. Through our work with the Alternative Staffing Alliance, we have a deep understanding of what it takes to enable these social ventures succeed and scale.
